Ever since I read this article from Architectural Digest on the new Dior store in Seoul / Cheongdam I wanted to visit the store to see Christian de Portzamparc’s design and eat the delicious pastries by Pierre Herme at Dior Cafe Seoul. (Can someone please bring Pierre Herme to NY? Best macarons I have ever tasted!). The store design was amazing but I was really blown away by this cafe. The made-to-order pastries are truly the tastiest and most delicious. The price is also a bit shocking too as Korean cafes are notorious for having $10+ coffees. In Korea they call this “jah ree gap” which means you are not only paying for the coffee, but also the ability to spend time in an expensive lease area which is certainly the case with Cheongdamdong. Gangnam, the are south of the river, is known to be posh and was popularized by Psy’s hit song Gangnam Style but Cheongdam is one of the ritziest areas of Gangnam.

Dior Cafe Seoul Desserts
Now on to the amazing desserts. Generally it’s hard to find food that both looks and tastes great and is served in a beautiful setting but Dior Cafe Seoul hits all three areas out of the park. I was particularly impressed by the Millefeuille Ispahan (24,000 KRW / ~$20) and the Cafe Glace Latte (20,000 KRW / ~$16.50). At Korean restaurants you do not need to pay additional tax or tip so that makes these high prices a bit more palatable. This is probably the most expensive cafe in Korea right now. Most coffees are about $15-$17 and desserts are $20 with the exception of the special seasonal dessert which is $29. The FW15 dessert is a chocolate hazelnut dessert. Most of the guests I saw on a Sunday morning were tourists and not locals.
My favorite dessert, the miellefeuille ispahan, see the video of the making of this beauty below in this post. The rose and lychee mascarpone cream tastes amazing and is tinted the most beautiful shade of rose peach and pairs perfectly with the raspberries on top. We also tried a chocolate dessert but I really preferred the raspberry ones to the chocolate one. The lychee ice cream in the parfait was the best lychee ice cream I have tasted.
